I heard that snow would be falling in Essex with just a 10% chance of it falling in London.. I woke up to the following day to the beautiful sights of crisp, white, fresh SNOW…
I know that I’m not alone in liking SNOW it feels magical and beautify’s even the dullest row of houses, flats and basically everything that it lands on, it’s been in February that snow lands in England for a few years now, but in my favourite month of January it’s here.
We used to enjoy the snowy weather in December or January many years ago in England when I was a child, back then (Ok… So just so you know this.. I’m not a retiring old lady, it’s just the term that I prefer to use) the snow was a lot thicker and it lasted for longer, my siblings and I were so excited to pull on our wellington boots to play outside amongst other children and adults, who were making snowballs and fresh footprints for the sake of it, we were fun and happy as excitement filled the air, to put it mildly it seemed like as a nation we were all carefree back then, even our parents were cool and non chalant about the simplest things.
When giving out Christmas Cards were at it’s peak as we selected our favourite cards from our boxes, deciding which friend receives the one suited to them, my siblings and I received over 30 cards back each, which didn’t include joined ones for all of us, or what our parent’s received and let’s not go into how much Christmas presents that were under the tree. Anyway the point that I was making is the snug and snowy festivities of December, and the glow of January when it was awesome, back when snow globes was a thing, and ear muffs and the snoods were on trend, our parents made sure my siblings and I were decked out and looking good.. But now I don’t even own a pair of wellington boots because in a blink of the eye in London these days the snow is washed away real quick!
Nowadays once we hear that in England we should expect snow, even with how it’s reported there is no buzz or joy surrounding it like there once was, because it’s not a big deal now but more of a hindrance to most and I understand the annoyance and frustrations of traffic drawing to a standstill, alongside several roads being closed after hearing one swerving accident after the other, and tragedy looming over the breaking news, it’s a scary prospect now where being cautious over danger wipes out any excitement of yesteryear, but at this point it’s a whole pandemic out here and we are still in lockdown, so I’m just hoping it minimises it all because majority of us are still in our homes.
I’m being nostalgic as usual from what I recall we took pleasure from the smallest of things, and although life has never been a piece of cake or a bed of roses, as a family we cherished our valuable times together, and had a lot of fun as our home was filled with positive great vibes, love and laughter, treasured memories and momentum throughout, especially on Fireworks night (Guy Fawkes) Christmas, New Year as we also celebrated and parried on all our birthdays together, with a buzz in the air we still smiled and were happy just seeing that it SNOWED!
