Koryn Hawthorne is multi-talented American Contemporary Christian Music And Gospel Singer, her songs are amazingly soulful and heartfelt, being majorly successful with a Billboard Music Award for Top Gospel Song and an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Gospel Album. GMA Dove Award for Contemporary Gospel / Urban Recorded Song of the year, GMA Dove Award for Contemporary Gospel / Urban Album of the year and she is only 22.
Koryn Mattanah Hawthorne was born on 26th December 1997, her proud parents are Summers Dozier-Simon and Corey Hawthorne from Abbeville Louisiana US. Koryn was a finalist in season 8 of The Voice, the NBC Singing Competition, back then she was 17 and a member of Pharrell Williams’s team. She finished fourth place and has made history by being the first ever Voice Contestant to win a Grammy and it’s well deserved.
Being a Minister’s daughter Koryn was introduced to singing gospel music in the church, at the age of 9 Koryn joined Louisiana Kids, where she would actively compete in singing heats with other kids in her state. she went on to singing at charity events, churches and nursing homes. Koryn was working at Little Caesars in (Abbevile) at the time of auditioning for the eighth edition of The Voice, where she sang: ‘My Kind Of Love’ by Emelie Sande. Koryn being a singing sensation on the show whilst making a lasting impression, as she sang How Great Thou Art during the playoffs as part of the competition.

Mark Piazza (Abbevile Mayor) presented Koryn with the key to the city as he declared 6th May ‘Koryn Hawthorne Day’ which is a great honour.
After coming fourth place in The Voice Koryn signed to RCA Inspirations which covers gospel music recordings and is a division of Sony Music, her manager is Mitchell Solarek (Founder and President) of Maximum Artist Management. Koryn is also a 2016 graduate of Lighthouse Christian Preparatory High School in Abbevile
Koryn made a guest appearance on the fifth season of Mary Mary’s reality TV Show, and another two guest appearances on Greenleaf an OWN TV Show, in one episode Koryn performed her amazing debut ‘Won’t He Do It’ the song which she later received her First Dove Award for. Koryn also recorded the song Saints & Sinners for the original soundtrack for the TV show Saints & Sinners which is impressive, it was on Bounce TV. Koryn collaborated with Branan Murphy who is a Christian Recording Artist their single was called: ‘All The Wrong Things’
Koryn released her EP (which has four tracks on it) in 2017, her vocals are incredible and she has a unique and refreshing soulful sound, Grammy Awarded Producers and Songwriters wanted to work with her. Makeba Riddick, Bernie Herms and Warryn Campbell who Koryn met whilst filming on Mary Mary’s Reality TV Show.
Joaquin Bynum (also known as The Bear) he produced and wrote Koryn’s material, that EP earned two Stellar Gospel Music Awards, Nominations for Contemporary Female Vocalist of the Year and New Artist of the year.
Koryn’s amazing debut album Unstoppable was a Top Gospel Album it reached number 1 when it was released in 2018. The lead single ‘Won’t He Do It’ also reached number 1 on Billboards three main gospel charts. Koryn has made history being the longest female artist holder on Billboards Hot Gospel Songs Chart, and also the first female to top four gospel charts simultaneously in five years!

Koryn featured on Aaron Cole’s single: ‘Down Like That’ in July 2018, and she also performed at the Christian Music Summer Concert Event, Summer Lights Tour alongside Matthew West, Jeremy Camp and Rend Collective in Detroit on 12th July 2018 and the final date being the 22nd July 2018. Koryn also performed her hit single: ‘Won’t He Do It’ at Soul Train Awards.
Koryn released her music video for ‘Unstoppable’ with a feature from Lecrae in February 2019, and she contributed her hit single ‘Enough’ to the Overcomer Soundtrack in August 2019. By December.
Koryn’s Debut single ‘Won’t He Do It’ was Officially Certified Gold. On the 61st Grammy Award. Koryn also received a nomination for Best Gospel Performance for her song: ‘Won’t He Do It’ and that song also was Contemporary Gospel / Urban Recorded Song Of The Year and more.
This year Koryn Debut single: ‘Speak The Name’ was nominated for Best Gospel Performance / Song on the 62nd Grammy Award. Koryn released her Album: Sophmore, the lead single on it called ‘Pray” reached number 1 on Billboard’s Gospel Digital Song Sales Chart. and her Sophomore Album ‘I AM’ was also.released.
Koryn main influences and inspirations in music are: Mary Mary, Kirk Franklin, Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Etta James, Mary J Blige, Fred Hammond, Lauryn Hill and various other artists. It’s great that she was nominated for Billboard Top Gospel Artist Category alongside Kirk Franklin, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Kanye West and Sunday Service Choir, and now she is making her mark and climbing the ranks successfully being a great role model to influence and inspire others also.
