Lakers Legend And NBA Icon Kobe Bryant aged 41 passed away on 26th January in a helicopter crash in Calabasis California alongside his daughter Gianna aged 13 and 7 other victims as they travelled to Mamba Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks to attend a Youth Basket Ball Tournament.
In devastating news the helicopter that they were all travelling in a Sikorsky S-76B crashed into the hills near Calabasas California, shortly before 10am on Sunday due to the extreme foggy conditions that morning, CNN reported: At one point, an air traffic controller informed the pilot, “You’re too low for flight following at this time” as it couldn’t be registered on the radar. The pilot made a sharp turn and the helicopter suddenly crashed and blazed into a fireball, in which investigators called a high energy impact crash.
An onlooker Jerry Kocharian who was in the Canyon standing outside the church at the time as he drank his coffee, he heard a helicopter that was flying unusually low and appeared to be struggling. Jerry was reported as saying: “It didn’t sound right and it was real low. I saw it falling and spluttering. But it was hard to make out as it was so foggy,” The helicopter then vanished into a cloud of fog and then there was a loud boom, Jerry added: “There was a big fireball, no one could survive that.”
Kurt Deetz, a pilot previously from Island Express Helicopters, who used to fly Kobe in the helicopter said that: “Weather conditions were poor in Van Nuys on Sunday morning – not good at all.” In other reports he also explained that: “The crash was more likely caused by bad weather than engine or mechanical issues, the likelihood of a catastrophic twin engine failure on that aircraft, it just doesn’t happen,” he said.
At 9:06am: The helicopter departed from John Wayne Airport. The helicopter travelled above Boyle Heights which is near Dodger Stadium, and for 14 minutes circled above Glendale.
Los Angeles County Fire Chief Daryl Osby explained that: “At 9:47am the Los Angeles County Fire Department received a 911 call of a potential helicopter down and a brush fire…Upon arrival, our firefighters discovered approximately a quarter-acre brush fire that resulted from a crash on the hillside, “The Los Angeles County Fire Department’s initial response was 15 pieces of apparatus and 56 personnel.

A city is in mourning with fans from the US and worldwide.
A book seller at the Cash Register Armando Romero who heard the tragic news from his Manager, he mentioned “Within minutes, customers were asking to put Bryant-related books on hold” And over at the Barnes and Nobles store in Orange County they had sold out of all their Kobe Bryant photo books.
